Q: Tell us about yourself and your family.
Married? Children? How many? Married for almost 11
years to my hardworking and gentle husband Erik. We have two boys, Roman 3 ½,
Ocean 11 months. Roman is our super dynamo boy, was walking at 9 months, taking
apart and putting together pens at 11 months, stringing together sentences at 23
months and just Mr. Go Go Go! Ocean is completely opposite. He is content to
crawl around, smile, sing and wave his hands, and throw anything he can get his
hands on.
Q: If you have children, what is your favorite part
about being a mom? Getting to be silly,
illy, billy, without judgement. They way they run (or crawl) to me when I’ve
been gone for an hour or two.
Q: Cat or dog person? Why? Both! I grew up with a
dog but we have cats.
Q: Favorite color? Least
favorite? Any particular reason? Any jewel toned colors;
ruby red, emerald green, royal purple, etc – because I look great in
them!
Q: What type of music do you prefer? Pretty much anything
but gangsta’ rap and country. Was a “new waver” in high school and I still call
U2 my favorite group. My boys LOVE Outkast!
Q: Last book that you read - or tried to read?
Tuesday’s with Morie.
Erik bought it for me for Christmas. I just finished it this April. I have to
admit every year I read the Little House books and the Anne of Green Gables
books. I’m not kidding when I say every year either. I’m pathetic, I
know.
Q: What do you prefer to do in your spare time?
Hobbies/Interests? Spare time…spare
time…spare time??? Ummmm…hmmmm…wha’? I pretty much have to schedule my spare
time. Erik travels frequently, so when he is home, I usually schedule my
chiropractic, waxing, etc during those times. Right now, being able to go to
Target by myself for no apparent reason is heaven!
Q: Funniest WAHM moment. A customer called,
Ocean decided he was finally ready for a nap (had been working on it for two
hours) and a poopy diaper change, Roman suddenly decided that he was ready for
lunch and wanted fruit leather (jumping up and down screaming I want fruit
leda! I want fruit leda! I want fruit leda!) which he can’t open himself yet,
UPS coming to do a pick up, and the mail man making a delivery. Thankfully the
customer found the entire thing hilarious!
Q: What was the inspiration behind your business? I have no idea. I was
selling slings and suddenly we became what we are
today.
Q: How long have you been in business? Is your
business all online or do you have any local business? We have been open since
11/03. Just online.
Q: How did you go about starting your business?
What was the VERY FIRST thing you did? I did A LOT of research
on the internet then got my business license.
Q: What did others think when you started your business?
Were they supportive? Everyone who knows
about it is supportive. Our parents especially.
Q: Do you have a business plan or flying by the seat
of your pants?
Business plan!
Q: What is your daily routine? Oh my. Get out of bed,
pee, brush my teeth, sometimes shower, get dressed, get kids dressed, breakfast
for all, take Roman to Montessori preschool, come home, Ocean naps, then I
either answer email or do administrative stuff. After Ocean wakes up it’s
usually time to get Roman, lunch, then Roman goes down for a nap, and I try to
do house or business stuff. After dinner I process orders, customer
correspondence, administrative stuff, etc. Friday and Saturday nights are family
nights which means we try to get the kids down as soon as possible so we can
talk and experiment with the contents of our bar.
Q: What have you found to be the toughest part of the
job of WAHM?
Everything!
Q: What do you feel is your greatest
strength and the greatest asset that you
bring to your business? PK (pre-kids) I was an
Executive Administrative Assistant. So organizing is a top priority. However,
having children makes that a big challenge.
Q: How would others
describe you?
Driven.
Q:
On the
other
hand,
what do
you feel
is your
greatest
weakness
- how
have you
dealt
with
that in
your
business?
Organizing. I’ve
learned with children, you have to let things go. But that is so incredibly hard
when you want to have everything compartmentalized and planned
out. Q: How would you describe yourself?
Tired and very happy.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job? Talking to my
customers. It’s nice to know there are so many moms out there that are into
nurturing their children.
Q: What is your favorite other WAHM/WAHM sites? Kissaluvs! I begged
and pestered Dianna to let me sell her diapers, until I am sure she had had
enough of me!
Q: What is your definition of a WAHM?
A mother who in the
midst of business and home demands takes the time to nurture her family.
Q: What is most important to you in a
Cloth Diaper Resource site?
Product variety, clear
instruction, personal reviews, easy navigation, and a streamlined
look.
