We have recently opened our new store. The goal is to
carry products made by other WAHMs or companies that have been
started by WAHMs. We have added lots of helpful
information on cloth diapering, care and some great new
products as well.
We presently carry Happy Heiny's, Bumkins, Fuzzi Bunz, Tiny
Hinnies, Puddle Catchers, BabyKicks hemp goods and will be
adding to our line of diapering products. I'm also very
excited to be carrying a SUPER line of organic cotton
children's clothing. The t-shirts are Fabulous.
Our other new adventure will be children's hats and we have
had t-shirts custom made to match your favorite Happy Heiny's
printed diapers.

Q: Tell us about yourself and your family.
Married? Children? How many?
Married to Bill for 14 years. Four children - ages 13,
11, 9 and 2.
Q: If you have children, what is your favorite part
about being a mom?
Watching my children grow and learn to do new things.
Being there as they succeed at new challenges and overcome
everyday obstacles that life puts in their path. Good
morning hugs and good bye kisses.
Q: Cat or dog person? Why? I like them both really.
Q: Favorite color? Least
favorite? Any particular reason?
Blue has always been my favorite color ~ not
sure why. Least favorite would be
yellow or green.
Q: What type of music do you prefer?
Any kind of music.
Q: Last book that you read - or tried to read?
The Prayer of Jabez
Q: What do you prefer to do in your spare time?
Hobbies/Interests?
I don't have a lot of spare time - but I raise chickens.
I usually have anywhere from 25-50 hens year round. Then
in the spring, I raise about 200 roaster/broiler chickens.
I sell the eggs at a local farmer's market during the summer
months along with fresh produce and home made breads. I
love to make bread the old fashioned way. Its a type of
"therapy" for me. A huge favorite of my boys and
customers is my mom's cinnamon raisin bread. I guess you
could say its a hobby - but also another way for me to pull
in some extra income for our family and stay home at the same
time.
Q: Funniest WAHM moment. I
think its pretty funny to see the
expression on peoples face when they ask
what kind of business I have and I say that
I sell "cloth diapers" - they are always so
very surprised.
Q: What was the inspiration behind your business?
My son Caleb and the desire to pass on useful cloth diapering
information and great products to other moms. I used
cloth occasionally with all my other children, but back then
all I knew was Gerber and pins. So, as you can imagine
cloth diapering was discouraging and didn't last long.
When I was pregnant with Caleb I knew I wanted to cloth diaper
FULL time. So, I bought my first cloth diapers on ebay.
I fell in love with Bumkins (the first diapers I really found
that I liked) when I opened my resale store online - I knew I
wanted to offer Bumkins because I liked them so much. My
cloth diapering business grew from there.
Q: How long have you been in business? Is your
business all online or do you have any local business?
Just a little over 2 years. Strictly online. Would
love to have a brick and mortar store, but there is no market
for that in our area.
Q: How did you go about starting your business?
What was the VERY FIRST thing you did?
Contacted someone about web design, development and learning
HTML.
Q: What did others think when you started your business?
Were they supportive?
Yes, for the most part they were supportive. However, I
think since my business is out of my home, people "forget" that
I have business and are like "oh yeah" when I mention it in
conversation.
Q: Do you have a business plan or flying by the seat
of your pants?
Well, I had business plans, but they seem to have taken a
different course and become more fly by the seat plans.
Q: What is your daily routine?
I get up at 5 am to check on my email, package orders and
print postage. I wake my kids for school at 6 am and get
them ready to leave for the day. I then work until Caleb
wakes up. I use mornings to run errands, go shopping,
and other odds and ends. I usually get back online or
back to business when Caleb goes down for his nap in the
afternoon.
When the kids get home its time to do "chores, make supper,
etc . . . "
Somewhere in there I have to find time to do bookkeeping
for the farm, garden, can, laundry, etc. . .
Q: What have you found to be the toughest part of the
job of WAHM?
Finding time for everything.
Q: What do you feel is your greatest
strength and the greatest asset that you
bring to your business? I love to
talk cloth diapering and I am very quick to
answer any emails with questions customers
might have. I'm not a procrastinator
(when it comes to my business anyway) so
orders are usually shipped within 24 hours
or sooner.
Q: How would others
describe you?
Helpful and friendly.
Q:
On the
other
hand,
what do
you feel
is your
greatest
weakness
- how
have you
dealt
with
that in
your
business?
Paperwork
- YUCK
Q: How would you describe yourself? Self
motivated, compassionate - world's worst speller.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
I love being able to stay home and work in my pjs. But I
also love meeting new mamas. I can't tell you how many
friends I've made since I started my business and how much I
enjoy getting an email or instant message from them just to say
"Hello."
Q: What is your favorite other WAHM/WAHM sites?
I love seeing the different Garden creations at Fuzbaby.
Kinderbibbles is a great site for hats and children's
clothing.
Q: What is your definition of a WAHM?
Any Mom who works to stay home with her children.
Q: What is most important to you in a
Cloth Diaper Resource site? Helpful
information on the different types of
diapers, their care and other
"trouble-shooting" tips.
