Pack Leader :: Sarah Zmuda
of Motherhood Naturally
Lack of support in her local area and a
vision to see cloth diapering become popular, was the catalyst behind Sarah's
cloth diapering book. "I decided to make this book when I realized how
confusing cloth diapering can be to a new person," said Sarah. "People
would often ask me about cloth diapers, and many didn't even know they still
existed, when I'd change my daughter in public."
 |
Getting the word out. To help spread the
knowledge of cloth, Sarah went beyond writing and
publishing her own cloth diapering book. She began
giving Cloth Diapering 101 classes in her community.
She offers herself as a resource within her community for
anyone who has questions concerning cloth diapers and
diapering.
Cloth Diapering 101. For
her classes, Sarah put together a resource guide that is
sold as part of her book, and given to the students in her
class. This guide is meant to help connect families
with the WAHMs (work-at-home-moms) who make or sell cloth
diapers and supplies. The listings are FREE to WAHMs.
This growing list is just another way that Sarah is being
a cloth diapering resource within her local community.
In addition, it supports the diaper-sewers online who
might not otherwise afford to advertise.
"This actually began
when I started making handouts for my CD101 classes, and
it just grew. When my handout collection to to
about 40 pages, I realized I should just write a book."

The "Do It Yourself" Cloth Diapering Handbook
covers buying diapers, and the different types of
diapers, covers and supplies available. Washing
cloth diapers is also covered in the book, including the
care of wool covers and troubleshooting tips. Some other
topics are - storing dirty diapers, how to stuff a
pocket diaper, pinning or other modes of fastening
diapers, and folding diapers for day-time or night-time
use and absorption needs. Many other topics are
discussed as well.Room for your personal notes.
The backsides of each page are primarily left blank,
with a question or two at the top of the page that
relates to the topic being read. This can be
useful in helping families plan their diapering systems
and routines; still others may use the back as a notepad
to record new diapering ideas, websites they like, techniques
that have helped them, contacts, or
anything else that comes to mind.

"Sarah's cloth diapering guide is a much needed
resource for anyone interested in cloth diapers. Even for those who have
tried just about everything out there; there may just be something you
haven't learned yet, or it could be something to show to someone who is
interested in venturing into the wonderful new world of cloth diapering! And
for those newbies, this is a great crash course in all the ways to make cloth
diapering easy!"

A Natural Parenting Vision.
Sarah's vision is not only to see cloth diapering get the
attention it deserves, but also to see more women educated and
supported in their decisions toward natural birth and
breastfeeding. "All too often I see parents and women
discouraged, either from their own doctor or family, from
having the natural birth they want." Sarah believes that
with proper education through a strong local support network,
mothers can attain the fullness of their birthing and
parenting goals. "To try limiting the lack of education,
support and empowerment in my area, I have decided to become a
certified childbirth educator through ALACE (Association of
Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators), and through CAPPA."
Sarah also plans to offer other classes on topics she is
passionate about; breastfeeding, newborn care, attachment
parenting, and the postpartum period.
