Lisa Poisso
A "Renaissance mama" with a passion for natural
family living. When it comes to Lisa Poisso, the
boundaries are endless as are the hats she wears. A self
pronounced "Renaissance mama," this former ballet and musical
theatre dancer holds separate degrees in fine arts and
journalism, has worked in corporate communications, chalked up
more than 15 years of experience as a professional writer and
magazine editor, and has run her own home-based writing and
editorial business since 1995.
At the heart of APConnect!
Dallas/Fort Worth owes their online AP
(Attachment Parenting) and natural parenting resource site, APConnect!,
to this mama's passion. APConnect! is a
completely nonprofit online network for families interested in
all things surrounding attachment parenting and natural family
living. The logo - 'Connecting Parents of Connected
Children' are the words behind her fervor. Lisa Poisso founded the site and
does all the work (from writing to design and publishing) as
her contribution simply because she wants local parents to
have the resource available to them. APConnect!
is ad free, with the web hosting generously donated.

A vision unfolds. A passionate advocate for
attachment parenting and natural family living, Lisa's vision
extended even beyond APConnect! serving as Editor for
Natural Family Online magazine. Natural Family
Online, re-launching December 1st, 2003, offers natural
parenting tools every family can use. Natural Family
Online wants to make natural approaches to family living
accessible to parents who might not necessarily consider
themselves to be 'crunchy granolas.' Lisa desires
for readers to see how easy and natural it is to implement
simple, holistic practices into their daily family lives -
while providing enough depth for more experienced natural
parents.
"Lisa's entire being is fun, thought
provoking and motivational. She's quickly become a
top-notch player at BPO [Busy Parents Online]." Gina
Ritter, Owner and Editor-in-Chief

From mainstream to natural. Over the years,
Lisa states that she has ". . . trekked across the entire spectrum of parenting, from
mainstream to natural." She started out going with the mainstream 'What to
Expect . . . ' books in raising her son. She considers
herself lucky to have stumbled across The Baby Book
(Dr. William Sears) and Mothering magazine. Both of
which, she feels played heavily into her current style of
parenting. Lisa confesses, "I've never been one to do anything halfway; it just
made sense to me that when you have a baby, you and that baby stick together
through thick and thin."
"There were a number of years when I was still put off by some of the more
radical-sounding natural parenting practices. With the birth of my daughter, I
found myself able to make parenting choices without the pressure of work outside
the home and with the full support of my husband. Across the board, each of
those decisions have individually arrived at the "natural" choice."
What's in her stash? Lisa's
claims to be a "Dyed-in-the-wool wool cover fanatic; been using prefolds since 1993, when
[she] used
some of the original Snappis." How does she spread the word?
"I spend a lot of time toting samples of this and that from my diaper stash
around to LLL meetings and AP playgroups. It amazes people to see how cute and
easy to use cloth diapers are today. They have no idea. Let them touch and feel,
describe a simple laundry routine and send them home with a few choice WAHM
sites their way ... You've made a convert! Happy babies, happy mommies, happy
Earth."
Burning the midnight oil. In the
midst of editing two websites, Lisa continues to write
parenting articles for both print and online publications in
addition to maintaining a limited base of business
communication clients and freelance editing projects.
Also, in the wee hours on the home-front, Lisa edits the work of her husband, a
gaming and fantasy fiction writer.
